The most significant item on this year's agenda was the recommendations of the Design Committee. This adhoc committee, established to help with racial relationships and reconciliation, has developed a paper which describes the way(s) in which we can begin to build relationships and foster cooperation within the church.
This report recommended Local/Cooperative/Progressive movement in these directions:
1. Pastors who serve in similar localities begin meeting on a regular basis for the purpose of conversation, support and cooperation.
2. Congregations sponsor local cooperative worship and work projects.
3. Cooperative State Youth Work - a single Youth Convention and joint local and regional events
4. Encourage a single State-wide WCG (Women of the Church of God) Convention.
5. Develop other joint projects (such as an annual/semi-annual Christian Education Convention)
6. Adopt and support Living Link for a shared missionary family.
7. Continue two Camp Meetings (for the forseeable future) with strong sharing and involvement in both events.
Much of this work is informed by the model that has been used successfully by Mission Mississippi through out the state.
Still to be discussed, formulated and implemented is the long-term plan for our labors and how we could best work to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the state of Mississippi. How do we best accomplish the goals of:
Planting New Churches, (Igniting the Great Commission)
Promoting congregational and pastoral health (SHAPE),
Preparing disciples for maturity in Christ
(Permeate the Great Commandments, Cultivate Spiritual Giftedness).
